It’s hard getting back to the grind after the wedding and honeymoon. There are still loose ends to be tied up even afterwards – thank you notes, ordering photos and albums (our photo CD is being mailed out tomorrow! Yes!), returns and exchanges from our wedding registry, finding places to store all our new gifts, and of course the whole ordeal of legally changing my name.

I am waiting now for a copy of our marriage license to arrive in the mail. I know that the first thing I need to do is get my driver’s license and Social Security cards changed, then I can go from there to change my name on my bank accounts, credit cards, utility bills, etc. Do any married women out there have advice on how to go about it without going insane in the process?

Also, I’m debating on HOW I want to change my name. An option I am thinking of is turning my maiden name into my middle name, making me Kristen Maindenname Lastname. Or I can keep my middle name, get rid of my maiden name, and add my new last name, making me Kristen Middlename Lastname. Any thoughts on this? I am not totally in love with my current middle name (Kelli) and it seems like a lot of brides are choosing the Firstname Maidenname Lastname option. I consider myself to be pretty modern, and my last name is not very common, so it would be nice to include it. But I’m still wavering.

I promise that lots of eye candy is to come! I’m finally feeling back to normal and should be able to blog in full detail about the wedding day and honeymoon in full detail very soon.

Hey everyone!

Well it’s finally that time! I can’t believe the wedding is just 3 short days away.

Today was my last day at work, and tonight will be spent packing and running some last-minute errands before we depart tomorrow. I am driving down with my parents tomorrow morning, while Brian will arrive later tomorrow evening in my car with one of the groomsmen who is flying into Birmingham tomorrow afternoon.

After we arrive tomorrow, the plan is to get my parents checked into their condo (I’m staying with them Thursday night), then my dad will go pick up my sister, brother-in-law and nephews at the Pensacola airport. Meanwhile my mom and I will go shopping for groceries and for supplies for my lingerie shower Friday night. Then later on Brian and I are going out with the young folks who will already be in town – I foresee a trip to the Flora-Bama!

I am so excited to FINALLY meet my youngest nephew Ryan tomorrow. I can’t believe he is 10 months old and I have YET to meet him, it makes me feel like a horrible auntie. I hope that Jake, my older nephew (3) and our ring bearer, remembers me. I look forward to spending some time with him tomorrow and Friday.

It has been quite a whirlwind lately and I haven’t been able to blog nearly as much as I want. Stay tuned for lots of future posts on:

 • the ceremony and reception
 • the honeymoon
 • and of course … my dress! So excited that I will finally be able to talk about it.

We’ll be driving back May 4 and recovering on May 5 before I return to work on May 6, so start looking for new posts then! You can also follow me on Twitter. I plan to tweet a bit over the course of the wedding and honeymoon, as long as it doesn’t drive Brian too crazy. My Twitter account is private, so get your request in soon so I can allow you to follow me before we get to Disney and have to pay for Internet access.

I’ve been hard at work planning all those last-minute details. I had a GREAT phone call yesterday with our DJs, a married couple named Bill and Jeannie, who are driving all the way to the wedding from the Clearwater, Fla., area. They travel all along the Gulf Coast for weddings.

Anyhow, Bill and Jeannie suggested getting all the formalities out of the way as early as possible, which is why we’re going immediately from the bridal party introduction to toasts to dinner to cake cutting to first dance and so on. This is all especially true because we only have a 3-hour long reception. Unfortunately there is a noise ordinance at The Beach Club that keeps receptions from going past 10 p.m. So without further ado, here is the plan:

Our Wedding Reception Timeline

7 -7:30 p.m.: Cocktail hour. Beachy, casual music during this time: Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley, Beach Boys, Jack Johnson — “Better Together,” Alan Jackson — “It’s 5 o Clock Somewhere.”

7:30 (give or take): Bridal party introduction (‘One More Time,’ Daft Punk)

7:35: Bride & groom introduction (‘Beautiful Day,’ U2)

7:40: Toasts: (‘Stars Fell on Alabama,’ Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong)

1. Best man,
2. Maid of honor,
3. Brides’ father,
4. Groom & bride together

8-8:25 (earlier if toasts are done before 8): Dinner is served. More beachy, casual music during this time.

8:25: (earlier if possible): Cake cutting (‘Lucky,’ Colbie Caillat & Jason Mraz)

8:35: Bride & groom first dance (‘I Will,’ The Beatles)

8:40: Bride-dad first dance (‘Daughters,’ John Mayer)

8:45: Bouquet toss (‘All the Singles Ladies,’ Beyonce)

8:50: Garter toss: (‘American Woman,’ Lenny Kravitz)

8:55-9:55: Open dance floor

 • Motown — Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Temptations
 • ‘Feeling Good,’ Michael Buble
 • ‘Twist and Shout,’ The Beatles
 • Disco – ABBA, YMCA, etc.
 • 80s –Safety Dance,’ Men Without Hats; ‘Take On Me,’ Aha! etc.
 • Hair bands – ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me,’ Poison; ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ Journey, etc.
 • ‘Love Shack,’ B-52s – MUST PLAY
 • Hip-hop — ‘Hey Ya,’ Outkast; ‘Yeah!,’ Usher; ‘Golddigger,’ Kanye West; ‘Kiss Me Thru The Phone,’ Soulja Boy
 • ‘Circus,’ Britney Spears
 • ‘Poker Face,’ Lady Gaga

9:55: Last dance (Into the Mystic, Van Morrison)

You guys, seriously…I am getting married in 15 days!

I am getting more and more ecstatic with each passing day, and less and less stressed out.

This weekend, I am picking up my dress, getting a haircut and a facial, shopping for undergarments and jewelry, assembling bridsmaid gifts, finding ‘something old’ to wear, and assembling the program fans.

Next Saturday is haircolor, waxing and manicure, then next Sunday, Brian and I are doing the first half of our “Love Story” video with Superium Productions in Tuscaloosa, where we met and got engaged.

Here’s what’s left on the to-do list:

-Finalize list of reception songs and reception timeline for DJ. Brian and I are working on this presently.

-Dance classes? I hope we can squeeze in 1 or 2 before the wedding. I just don’t know if it’s feasible for us to have more than 1 class now, maybe.

-Pick up my shoes which are getting dyed light blue. Picking these up Tuesday.

-Have Men’s Wearhouse tailor Brian’s suit. It only takes a week to tailor, so Brian is dropping it off Tuesday.

-Make sure all groomsmen have bought the correct khaki pants. Working on this…we had a bit of an issue with this because one of the groomsmen wear a 28×36 pant. Crazy!

-Finalize guest headcount and give to florist, linen rental company, and venue. We have to have the headcount in tomorrow…we think we have a fairly accurate count.

-Get groomsmen gifts ready. Brian will work on this after he returns home from the bachelor extravaganza.

Didn’t accomplish a whole lot this weekend, but did manage to get a couple things done as seen in the list below.

On a serious note, the hardest part is seeing how few of our friends are able to make it for the wedding. The economy has really taken a bite out of everyone’s extra spending $ for traveling. The wedding is turning out to be much more intimate than I thought, but it’s OK. I think it will work for a beach wedding. We just have to meet the food minimum.

Other brides and newlyweds, did you have a hard time getting RSVPs back in the mail from your friends? It’s a hard topic to talk about, because of course everyone wants to be seen as popular and well-loved among their circle of friends, but it seems like a lot of my friends have simply flaked out and dropped off the face of the Earth. Luckily my bridal party is amazing — they’re the 3 best friends, sister and future stepsister-in-law I could ask for! But it’s just been surprising at how noncommunicative about half of my close friends from college, high school and here in Birmingham have been. It’s puzzling, really, and makes me feel as if I’ve done something wrong, or if they simply don’t feel the same way about me that I feel about them. Or maybe they’re too absorbed in their own lives. Thoughts?

Updated to-do list:

-Finish Blurb.com photo guestbook. This has to be done ASAP because it takes 5-6 business days to print and 3-5 business days to ship, unless I pay extra for overnight or 2-day shipping. Eeek!

-Finalize ceremony with pastor, then make program fans. I’ll do it this weekend at my parent’s house because they have a new printer and I will have a lot more room to spread out and get it all done. This will happen this weekend while Brian is at has Bachelor party.

-Finalize list of reception songs and reception timeline for DJ. Brian and I are working on this presently.

-Dance classes? I hope we can squeeze in 1 or 2 before the wedding. I just don’t know if it’s feasible for us to have more than 1 class now, maybe.

-Book rehearsal dinner venue. Brian is taking care of this. I hope we can get something nailed down soon. Brian is still hammering away at this.

-Drop off my shoes to get dyed light blue. I’m doing this tomorrow. Actually yes, I finally AM doing this tomorrow!

-Final dress fitting. I’ll hopefully do this the day before Easter while Brian is away at his bachelor party weekend. Planning on this for Saturday!

-Have Men’s Wearhouse tailor Brian’s suit. It only takes a week to tailor, so Brian is dropping it off a week from tomorrow.

-Make sure all groomsmen have bought the correct khaki pants. Hmmmm…

-Finalize guest headcount and give to florist, linen rental company, and venue. We have to have the headcount in this Saturday…time’s a tickin’!

-Decide what sort of hors’d’oeuvres we want to go with the buffet once we get the final headcount.

-Ger bridesmaid and groomsmen gifts ready. Part of my gift is ready to be picked up this week, hopefully, and my mom and I will work on assembling those this weekend.

-Shop for waist cincher for myself. This weekend!

-Shop for earrings/necklace for myself and make sure I have the something old (?), something new (check!), something borrowed (?), something blue (check!) This weekend!

Y’all, I’m getting married in a month. One month!!!

It’s been a busy week so far. This weekend was the ‘wedding weekend extravaganza’ in Atlanta. My mom FINALLY found a dress – a Calvin Klein at Macy’s. I attended my sorority sister Casey’s wedding, which was so much fun — we are sharing our Maid of Honor. Robin is such a blessing and she did a great job at Casey’s wedding. It was like a free preview. lol.

I’m on the right looking super pale. Time to work on the tan! The bride Casey is in the middle and Jennifer, one of my bridesmaids is on the left.

Today at lunch was my third dress fitting. It finally fits, although I was initially a little bit uncomfortable when I tried the dress on. But once I adjusted ‘the girls’ and let the dress loosen up around the arms, it was OK. All that’s left is making a bustle and reinforcing some the the buttons and we’re all set. I’m sorry to be so vague but Brian may still read this thing, so I can’t post photos or be really specific just yet. If you’re dying to know more about my dress, just comment and I will e-mail info to you.

Here’s the agenda for this weekend in Gulf Shores:

Saturday: Hair/makeup consult, shop for my dad’s shirt at Tommy Bahama outlet.
Sunday: Order wedding cake & groom’s cake at Publix, scout for rehearsal dinner venues, get some time in at the beach.
Monday: Consult with florist on reception setup and bouquet ribbon, go to Bay Minette for marriage license on the way home.

Welcome to Atlanta where the players play, And we ride on dem thangs like ev-ery day. Big beats, hit streets, see gangsters roamin, And parties don’t stop ’til eight in the mo’nin ~Ludacris

So for those of you who don’t know, I grew up outside of Atlanta, in Marietta. I was born at Northside Hospital. My parents spent a few years while I was toddler and preschool age moving around to different places like Nashville, Houston, and Orange County, Calif., but ultimately we ended up back in Marietta when I was 7 and starting second grade.

I graduated high school in 2001 and started college at the University of Alabama. Originally, I planned on transferring to UGA after a year, but I fell in love with UA, my professors and my major, the beautiful campus, the football team, my sorority, and Brian! The Crimson Tide love took hold and I did not want to leave. I am so grateful to my parents that they let me stay and continued paying out-of-state tuition for the remainder of my time at UA. I ended up excelling in my major, working for the campus newspaper, becoming vice president of my sorority, and I also marched piccolo for two years with the Million Dollar Band… that’s where I met Brian. He played bass drum. ☺

So anywho, after college, I came home to Marietta and worked for the hometown newspaper… very briefly. I’m talking 3 months during the summer of 2005. Really, I was ready to strike out on my own and needed to get out of Marietta.

That summer, Brian had moved down to West Palm Beach to live with his best friend Billy and work at the Mar-A-Lago resort on Palm Beach. I thought Florida sounded cool, so I started applying for jobs. I ended up getting hired as a copy and Web editor for a publications company in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. I got a lot of great experience and I wouldn’t trade that year for the world… but of course, after a year in Florida, Sweet Home Alabama came calling and Brian and I moved to Hoover, Alabama in August 2006.

We truly fell in love with the greater Birmingham area. It’s only 45 minutes from UA, the people are extremely nice, and the cost of living is reasonable. We loved it so much that in Feb. 2007, we bought a house! It is our little fixer-upper. It is a 1,300-sq-ft cottage built in 1949 with all hardwood and tile floors. It’s hard to believe we’ve been in the house for more than two years now.

Anywho, apparently we spread the Alabama love around so much that my parents decided to give it a go and they moved from Marietta to the Birmingham area in September 2007. They were able to downsize on their house, get out of the Atlanta congestion, and be closer to their youngest daughter..moi! In fact they’re just 6 miles from me.

So since September 2007, I have not been back to Atlanta. Not ONCE! It’s hard to believe. I’ve been to San Diego, New Orleans, Florida, Nashville, Kentucky, and even Americus, Ga. since that time, but not Atlanta. So I am very excited because my mom and I are driving to Marietta tomorrow night.

Saturday morning we have an appointment with CoverUpsLinens in Roswell to pick out my seat covers and table toppers. Then we are going shopping for my mom’s dress for the wedding…no, we are but 5 weeks out and she has yet to find one! We should probably go to Northpoint Mall since we will be close by. And we might squeeze in a trip to IKEA. Saturday night, I am attending my sorority sister Casey’s wedding in Norcross, Ga. It is at an old historic mansion called Flint Hill and it looks gorgeous! I can’t wait!

We’re also looking for a place to dye my shoes, and my mom is attending a bridal shower on Sunday as well. So it’s basically an Atlanta weekend wedding extravaganza!
