Something that I got asked about during our recent wedding planning trip was whether I planned on offering a signature drink at the reception. I had never really thought about it, nor did I realize that offering a signature drink was such a trend these days.

I found this recipe on theweddingworkroom.com and I think it may be a winner!

Blue Moon
1/2 oz. gin
2 tsp. Blue Curacao
2 tsp. Cointreau
2 tsp. pineapple juice
Lemonade to top off
Garnish with pineapple

I think it works well because it 1) sounds yummy, 2) goes with the blue color scheme, and 3) the crescent moon is the symbol of my sorority, so all my sorority sisters will get the reference.

Anyone who knows my mom knows that she loves a bargain. She is one of the only people I know who pays attention to rewards programs, and she also participates in rebate programs like eBates.

Anyone who knows my mom also knows that she is a Diet Coke addict. She recently cut down to 1 Diet Coke per day — I am so proud of her! Anyway, Coke has a program called MyCokeRewards where you enter codes from caps and 12-pack boxes and redeem them for all sorts of stuff.

My mom mentioned to me a while back that MyCokeRewards offers redemption for a free 16×20 collage poster on Snapfish. So tonight, I finally got off my big butt, redeemed some MyCokeRewards points and created a collage poster with the wedding in mind:

I plan on getting a whitewashed ‘shabby chic’ sort of frame for it to display at the gift table at the reception. We’re also going to display a photo book that I recently made as a surprise for Brian on Shutterfly.

We’re also toying with the idea of displaying a photo slideshow on a digital frame — it would be engagement photos mixed in with photos of us throughout our relationship and growing up. I thought that may be a cheaper option than paying someone to make a DVD slideshow. Thoughts?

I really like all of these styles … I hope that something like this could work for me. Day-to-day I wear my hair down for the most part, but for a wedding — especially a beach wedding where it may be windy — I would want do something a little more structured, aka a half updo!

Of course I may decide on a full updo once I get a salon consultation .. we’ll see!

Bridesmaid sandals!

They were on sale for $19.99 … but they didn’t have a lot of sizes left! So my fabulous mother called around and ordered shoes for all 5 bridesmaids, myself and her.Bridesmaid sandals ….check!-K

So this is the bridesmaid dress I’ve decided on. It’s After Six style 6537 in celestial blue with palomino sash. It’s a fabric called nu-georgette, which is layered and very airy. I think it’s really appropriate for the beach.

I’ve been agonizing over shoes for a long while .. what color? What style? Until finally I chanced across these on the Nine West Web site today:

Seven months before the wedding, my dress, veil and shoes have been ordered.

But what about Brian? We searched for a long while to find the perfect suit for him to wear, and finally, our search brought us to The Men’s Wearhouse, of all places. Brian plans to buy this suit for the big day. It’s 100% silk, so he should stay pretty comfortable. Underneath the suit, he will wear a Tommy Bahama baby blue silk camp shirt to match the bridesmaid dresses. A shirt like this one should do.

The groomsmen will wear the same Tommy Bahama camp shirt in white with khaki pants that match Brian’s suit — probably these Polo chinos in Hudson Tan.

I was thinking the guys could all just wear brown leather Rainbow sandals — I know Brian would like to own a pair anyhow.

See how the bridesmaids flowers are blue hydrangea and ivory roses? Well that’s exactly what I requested for my own bouquet at floral consultations this past Monday.

I’m deciding between Flowers By The Shore in Gulf Shores — an older, more established, more expensive shop, and All Island Flowers in Orange Beach, which is just a couple years old but about $300 cheaper.

What to decide, what to decide?

Brian, my mom and I are at The Beach Club this weekend planning for the wedding. We were given a free 2-night stay since we are “referring a group.”

Right now we are staying at one of the Beach Club Cottages, which are great and beautifully decorated, but they sit behind the condo towers and are therefore not given a view of the beach. My family was thinking of staying at one of the cottages for the wedding, and Brian and I were thinking of staying in them too with the wedding party, but after touring some of the condo towers, we are hooked on getting condos instead. The view from the condos is spectacular and a lot of them are really beautifully decorated.

Brian has his heart set on a 4-bedroom penthouse for the groomsmen, and I am thinking of a 3-bedroom condo at the other end of the property for the bridesmaids, close to where the wedding will take place. In fact, I can watch the ceremony site being set up as I get ready for the wedding. My mom is thinking of another 3-bedroom condo in the building next door for my family that just got completely redone.

Yesterday on the way here, we stopped by Miller’s Grand Events in Fairhope. They weren’t really of much help because their main table decoration girl wasn’t there, but we may have more luck at A Grand Affair in Foley tomorrow. I plan on contact Miller’s again and hopefully we can work over the phone to come up with ideas.

Today we met with our photographer Donna, which was a bit of a disaster. The purpose of the meeting was to look at albums and talk about setting up a family photo session the day after the wedding. But meeting up with Donna was a nightmare — no one’s fault really — but we finally ended up at an ice cream shop after two botched attempts at meeting at another ice cream shop (closed) and at the Gulf State Park pavillion (my mom wanted A/C). My mom balked at the prices of the photo session and the master CD, but in my view, it’s worth the price because they are so good and because the whole family is rarely together!

After meeting with Donna we had a menu tasting, which was great. I think everyone will like the buffet. It turns out that our buffet captain Eric is an AKL from Alabama and he dated one of my bridesmaids briefly. haha. For real, Alabama is such a small world!

More tomorrow.
