Our Disney Honeymoon!

Brian put down the deposit on our Disney World honeymoon this weekend. We have a FREE dining plan and we got an upgrade to Park Hopper for very cheap.

We are staying at the Port Orleans Riverside resort. It is a moderate Disney resort near Epcot and Downtown Disney. It has about a bazillion pools. I think the photo to the left is the main resort pool.

We are going to start a Disney Honeymoon registry and put a few things on it like dinner at Victoria & Albert’s at the Grand Floridian resort, which isn’t included on the Disney Dining Plan because it’s super $$$. I also want to add a massage at the Grand Floridian, the Mickey & Minnie wedding ears, and a Disney PhotoPass CD. We may also register for golf lessons, mini golf, and/or a fishing excursion.

I am just so excited about going to Disney for the honeymoon. I used to think that things like a Disney wedding or honeymoon were redneck or cheesy, but Brian has really taught me to embrace what it is I really love and just do what it is I want to do, regardless of what the Joneses think.

We will arrive at Disney in the a.m. on April 27, and we plan to hang out at Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM) while they get our hotel room ready. We definitely plan to spend full days at the Magic Kingdom and Epcot, our two favorite parks. I’d also like to spend a full day in Animal Kingdom as we were only there for a half-day in 2006.

So excited and am really looking forward to it!

My first Etsy purchase: ring bowl

I plan to use it in our wedding day shadowbox after the wedding. I’ll probably get some pretty blue ribbon to tie the rings onto the bowl rather than the twine as pictured.

Today I talked on the phone with a rep from Miller’s Grand Events.

I was able to get price quotes on the following:

  1. 10 “Crystal blue” organza table overlays
  2. 100 white chair covers.
  3. 15×15 dance floor (she recommended this size for 100 guests): marbleized or black & white checkerboard.
  4. Cake stand, hammered steel, 19 inches round.
  5. Votives, 4 per table.
  6. Round mirrors, 1 per table.

And I think this is pretty much it for what we need as far as rentals go.

My mom and Brian are against the chair covers, but you know what? It’s my wedding and I want chair covers! The chairs are ugly without covers and looks like everyone is at a business meeting or something.

I’m not sure about the dance floor. I like the idea of the black & white checkerboard, but I need to check on the cost and sizes available with The Beach Club as well.

I’m also not sure if I want to tie tulle around the backs of the chairs or not. Would it make it too frou-frou? Maybe I could do a different type of fabric instead?

So originally, Brian and I were planning on taking a 5-day Carnival cruise out of New Orleans to western Mexico for our honeymoon.

After receiving a special offer e-mail from Disney, I brought up the idea of honeymooning there. It turns out that we can get 6 nights at Disney with a free Disney Dining Plan for less than the cost of the 5-day cruise. It includes 7 park tickets, free transportation around the park, and extra park hours. The dining plan includes a sit-down meal, a quick service meal, and a snack each day.

So Brian and I spoke today and decided on Disney. We went there for our birthdays in Feb. 2006 and had a really great time. We got treated really well because we had on our birthday buttons, and while we were there, we saw at least a couple honeymooning couples wearing the “wedding ears” and all of them were getting treated really well too!

It looks like we will stay in one of the moderate resorts. It looks like it will be either Caribbean Beach or one of the Port Orleans resorts. We stayed at Port Orleans – French Quarter in June 2006 with our friend Danielle for 2 nights and we had a really good time. ETA: Looks like it will be one of the Port Orleans resorts for sure — no rooms are available at the Caribbean Beach resort.

We may do a Disney Honeymoon registry as well to pay for extras like massages or special activities. You can even register for tickets to Cirque du Soleil La Nouba, which I saw in ’06, but would love to see again.

So excited!

It’s official: We’ve hit a wedding planning lull.

I have been extremely busy lately with both my “real” job at NBC 13 and my “fake” job — volunteering for my sorority. Virtually all of my time has been spent either at work or with “my girls” in Tuscaloosa lately, and it’s all I can do to manage a grocery run with Brian or remember to get the bills paid.

So, to get me back into the wedding planning frame of mind, here’s a to-do list for the next few weeks:

  • Order invitations.
  • Write bridal shower thank you notes (photos from bridal shower are forthcoming).
  • Schedule cake tasting at Publix.
  • Order cake topper.
  • Schedule consultation with events company re: cake stand, dance floor, organza table overlays, chair covers, etc.
  • Find a good wedding dress seamstress in Birmingham.
  • Decide on florist (this one or this one? Leaning toward the latter because it is cheaper).
  • Decide on wedding favors. Thinking about real starfish ornaments or tin pails with herb seeds… something along those lines.
  • Talk with our pastor about ceremony music, vows, etc.

Some other things I am thinking about ordering:

I’m also trying to find a good guestbook that doesn’t cost $70+.

AND, I’m still thinking about what I want to wear in my hair, and about jewelry … although Brian has told me not to worry about jewelry. My guess is that he’s planning on buying me earrings, but I’m not totally sure… so I may still get a mother of pearl bracelet or something along those lines, or just borrow something from my mom or sister.

The rings

So this is my engagement set:

Because there are two bands on either side of the engagement ring, there was no need to do any additional shopping for a wedding band.

But what about Brian? We had looked around at Macy’s and several jewelry stores in the areas and were thinking about a white gold comfort fit band. But then I was surfing around on the Web and found this bad boy:

It is tungsten carbide from Overstock.com! Who would have thunk it? I think it has a really beautiful luster (a little darker than the white gold on my ring) and I love the concave look. And the price wasn’t bad either!

Now I just need to find somewhere in Birmingham that can engrave our rings for us. I was thinking of getting something like this for the engraving:

From the beginning, I have been considering Publix for my wedding cake.

So far, my favorite design is this one, called “Lifelong Love.” I really like the round-square-round-square tiers.

However, instead of green, the cake would be a very light blue.

And instead of the intricate lace and swag piping, it would be something more like this:

Then, instead of flowers as a topper, it would be this porcelain starfish:

Thoughts?

Etsy, how I love thee!

I finally jumped on the Etsy bandwagon today, and spent some time surfing around and oohing and aahing at earrings, hairpieces and various other accouterments for the wedding.

Some of my favorites:

SKY BLUE Beaded Hair Comb with Glass and Silk Flowers and Swarovski Centerpieces

Jeweled Center Silk or Organza Gardenia Wedding Hairclip Fascinator

Starfish With Pearl Hair Pins

Classic Pearls – Lustrous 12mm Coin Pearl and Sterling Silver Drop Earrings

I think I really like a combo of the earrings with either the silk flower or the starfish pins. We’ll see!

I also came across some gorgeous thank you cards, but they’re a little above my budget:
