Settling into Orlando

It's been just about three months for me, my husband and dog here in Orlando — and how hectic those three months have been!

In those three months, I've traveled more than usual. I went on two works trips to Atlanta — one weeklong trip for training in August, and another shorter trip for my company's annual digital conference last week. Earlier in October, Brian and I went back to Alabama for his stepsister's wedding. I'm hoping to do some travel *within* Florida soon — I haven't been to the beach or anywhere outside of Orlando since we moved here!

Also in those three months, I hit the ground running and then some at work. I successfully led the charge on the rebuilding and launching of WFTV.com on our company's new content management system. I've spearheaded the implementation of a new social media strategy, which we're in the beginning stages of now. And I've learned almost everyone's names and faces — WFTV Channel 9 is a BIG station with LOTS of people, so it's taken some time. It's a quality news operation, with some of the nicest, most professional people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. And I think most of all, I've gotten more comfortable with working with TV journalists. After 1.5 years of being back with newspapers, it took a little while to get readjusted to the uber-fast pace of a TV newsroom in a bigger market. But I think I'm hanging in there — well, hopefully!

Also, in those 3 months, Brian landed a great job at an area luxury hotel, cooking in the kitchens. He is thrilled to be back in the culinary world he left when we returned to Alabama in 2006. His title is "Cook 1," which means he's on the top tier of "cooks," and the next step up would be a salaried "chef" position.

And while we weren't anticipating this, Brian's little ol' Chevy S-10 drove its last mile, and we got him a new ride, one that he's been wanting for years: A Jeep Wrangler. Not the most practical, but I can attest it's so much fun.

2011 has been a great year, and I'm looking forward to more.
